Zero Hour

“The world will break…”

The shattering is here! Alhazad is up and running as a Sunwalker-in-training on Argent Dawn-US, under the character name Ghosteye! I could not bring myself to delete or otherwise change Alhazad the Warrior, though in the future I may do something special with this character.

The Valor armor is a bit dusty, but still good!

Argent Dawn was online ahead of schedule (originally planned to be up at 5 PM PST), and exhibited no troubles for the few hours I played. No lag, no crashes, no glitchy textures or models — all was well and right. Aside from the Quillboar incursion into Mulgore, that is!

Alhazad completed his tasks in Camp Narache and moved on to Bloodhoof Village, later visiting Thunder Bluff (and Baine Bloodhoof!) and generally completing quests, outfitting himself with Heirloom items, and learning professions. Currently we’re at Level 7 and Alhazad’s loadout is as follows:

  • Bloodied Arcanite Reaper (2hand Axe, Heirloom)
  • Polished Breastplate of Valor (Chestpiece, Heirloom)
  • Polished Spaulders of Valor (Shoulders, Heirloom)
  • Swift Hand of Justice (Trinket, Heirloom)
  • Profession: Mining
  • Profession: Blacksmithing
  • Secondary Professions: Cooking, First Aid

I was very, very tempted to have Alhazad choose Herbalism and Alchemy as his professions this time around, as I know how much of a benefit they can be in the end-game. However, after mulling this over with my fiancee I determined it would be too great a departure from who my character is — Alhazad the Warrior was a Blacksmith, and had learned aspects of the trade at a very young age as a cutler, cleaning, repairing and making guards, grips, pommels and related furnishings for his peoples’ weaponry. I could not just push that aside.

Alhazad the Warrior also had Skinning as his gathering profession. At the time (6 years ago), I figured it was a practical skill for a Tauren, and although it did not mesh well with Blacksmithing, it defined an aspect of his character and I enjoyed it and made a tidy profit selling leather and hides. For Cataclysm, I opted to change this for matters of sheer practicality — it will be more difficult for Alhazad to rely on others for the metal and stone needed for Blacksmithing. He must become more self-sufficient.

The Heirloom items are “his” — acquired many years ago in places such as Scholomance, Blackrock Depths, or Stratholme, or fashioned by his own hand. Wearing the Valor pieces really brings back memories of those dungeon runs of long ago!

I hope to reach Level 10 tonight. Along the way, I am recording certain events here and there with Fraps, for later inclusion in a video covering Alhazad’s adventure from 1 to 85 as a Sunwalker. I’m also taking screenshots, some of which I will include here.
